Why did the mermaid blush?

After an afternoon experimenting with ND filters off the Colwyn Bay promenade, there was enough sand in my shoes so I headed for more solid ground. This is a 3-photo focus stack - one on the pool, one on the mid-ground rocks, and one on myself (roughly). Pretty happy with the outcome :)

There’s plenty of compositions to be had along the coast here, from old jetties to modern sea defences, and even the off-shore wind farms on the horizon. Experiment with your shutter speeds and enjoy the outcomes!

The Jubilee Bridge in Queensferry, Deeside, North Wales. We used to drive over the “Blue Bridge” a few times a week as a kid on our way to see my Nan. It has Grade 2 listed status, originally a double leaf rolling bridge but now a permanent road bridge over the River Dee.

Originally I wasn’t happy with this photo - the wide-angle distortion, the fact my head’s a tad out of focus - but considering the lack of compositional freedom at this spot I’ve come to appreciate it a little more.

Photo taken from the North bank along the North Wales cycle path. After this shot I decided to run onto the “beach” for a more travel-like selfie, but it’s not sand… It’s pure soft, sinking, stinking silt. I immediately decked it and covered myself in reeking silt and just about managed to get back up. Then only a few minutes later the tidal surge rushed through - counting myself very lucky!

VLOG coming soon! This is why I always keep a spare change of clothes in the car…

the red eyeshine of the alligator occurs when light enters its eyes, passes through the rods (light receptors) and cones (color receptors) of the retina, strikes a membrane behind the retina called a tapeatum, and is then reflected back through the eye to the light source. most of the animals with eyeshine are, like alligators, night hunters who must make use of limited light. photos by larry lynch and david moynahan

This is rather freaky.
